Humpback whale found dead on Half Moon Bay beach likely killed by ship strike

Humpback whale found dead on Half Moon Bay beach likely killed by ship strike

A 49-foot humpback whale that washed up on a Half Moon Bay beach in a moderate state of decomposition most likely died from injuries sustained from a ship strike, according to experts with the Marine Mammal Center and the California Academy of Sciences.

“This humpback whale had an extensive contusion over her right chest area, a fractured first cervical vertebra and its skull was dislocated from the spinal column,” said Dr. Pádraig Duignan, Director of Pathology at The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito. “These findings, combined with overall excellent body condition, strongly implicates blunt force trauma associated with a ship strike as this whale’s cause of death.”

The whale’s carcass was reported Sunday afternoon by beachgoers at Manhattan Beach. The necropsy was performed on Monday, according to officials, who noted that the whale was an adult female.

During the summer and fall months, humpback whales frequent the California coast to feed before migrating south to mating and winter calving grounds off the coast of Mexico, officials from the Marine Mammal Center said.

Fewer than 10% of their original population remains, with less than 40,000 individuals still estimated around the world — and major threats to their life include entanglement in ocean trash and fishing gear, and ship strikes.

Seven gray whales and three humpback whales have been found dead in the San Francisco Bay Area so far in 2022, according to officials from the center. Necropsies found that of those, one died from malnutrition, one died from suspected orca predation, four died from ship strikes, and four died from undetermined causes.

To report a dead whale or whale in distress, call the Center’s rescue hotline at 415-289-SEAL (7325). All marine mammals are federally protected, and the public should not approach any whale, alive or dead.

Big Wave Surfer Kai Lenny Pays Homage To Surf Heroes, Clean Oceans—And Bruce Lee

Big Wave Surfer Kai Lenny Pays Homage To Surf Heroes, Clean Oceans—And Bruce Lee

American professional big wave surfer and stand-up paddle (SUP) racer Kai Lenny is as passionate about the waters as he is his chosen profession. But it’s not just the speed or height of the waves he’s riding, but instead the health and shape of the ocean—and the global environment—that’s on his mind.

Putting his money where his mouth is, the 29-year-old longtime Red Bull athlete and SUP world champion is taking up a new role as a global advocate to build awareness of and solutions to help eliminate plastic pollution from the world’s oceans, lakes, and rivers.

Starting this year, Lenny has begun working with A New Earth Project (ANEP) a strategic collaboration between outdoor enthusiasts and global packaging suppliers, whose aim is to rid the world’s oceans, lakes, and rivers of plastic pollution.

Lenny hints that it’s refreshing to see industry finally do its part.

“It’s amazing to see people and groups that care so much about the world we live in, care about the environment and are solving these problems,” Lenny said last week. “There’s no reason why we can’t do all the things we really want to do and just make that minor adjustment if it means future generations will get the benefits.”

Born and raised in Maui, Lenny first hit the surfing and beach sports scene as a teenager. In 2013, barely 19 years old then, he won a slew of SUP competitions, including 2013’s SUP Wave World Championships and Vice KSP Kiting World Champion, while also bagging the crown as 2013 SUP Overall World Champion. The year prior, he also won the 2012 World SUP Race Champion and the Hawaii Island Finals, among other competitions.

And right before the COVID-19 pandemic took hold and shut down sports, Lenny won the Nazaré Tow Surfing Challenge in February 2020, a big wave surf event at Praia do Norte, Portugal.

Last week, I connected with Kai Lenny to talk about surfing, stand-up paddling and his passion for the environment.

Andy Frye: Talk about your passion for the ocean and the environment and how you got involved with ANEP:

Kai Lenny: It’s great traveling anywhere in the world where the beaches and oceans are still clean and pristine. (This) seems rare nowadays, as plastic ocean pollution is pretty much everywhere.

I got involved in A New Earth Project because I’ve always believed in doing what we love to do, and think we can do it in a sustainable way. Anything made for the ocean should come in packaging that isn’t harmful to the ocean. A New Earth Project is a step in that direction.

AF: Hawaii natives grow up with so many great places to surf. What’s your favorite location to compete or just for enjoyment?

Lenny: Home is where the heart is—that’s for sure, haha, and that, for me, is Maui. My all-time favorite wave in the world is Peahi (AKA Jaws). There is nowhere like it in the world with its beauty, raw power and ability to overcome fears. The joy from a successful ride there is unmatched by any other wave I’ve ridden. It doesn’t break that often, only on the biggest winter swells, so it’s rare enough that each session is ingrained in my mind forever.

AF: You’ve accomplished a lot in your long career. Does any particular victory stand out? (and why)

Lenny: The goals I’ve set for myself have always been as important to me as a trophy or competition win. The journey and preparation are as exciting to me as winning. Wins feel good but right afterward it’s a distant memory. Winning a world title in Stand Up Paddling was a big goal and then repeating those titles…winning a big wave world tour surfing event was great. I have goals of competing on the professional surfing tour one day, but mainly I just enjoy the moments leading up to a possible victory.

AF: You’re a dad now to twin girls. How do you expect to pass down surfing to your kids?

Lenny: I have two newborn twin daughters and they are a huge life change for us. I can’t wait to show them the ocean and help them navigate their lives with the ocean as a backdrop. The way I grew up I did so many ocean sports. I feel pretty blessed to have the opportunity to guide them and see what they connect with.

AF: What athletes have inspired you most as a surfer and outside surfing?

Lenny: The most inspiration I’ve drawn from athletes from an early age was from the (group of famed surfers known as) the “Strapped Crew”—Laird Hamilton, Buzzy Kerbox, Dave Kalama, Rush Randall, Derek Doerner. They were the first surfers to tow into unrideable waves and broke those barriers and did it in such a cool way.

I always wanted to be a part of that. Plus, competition-wise, I respect and look to Kelly Slater and Robby Naish in their respective fields, surfing and windsurfing.

Outside of surfing I’ve always been impressed with (motorcycle racer) Travis Pastrana. Just his fearlessness and how nice of a person he is, how much he innovated within that. Of course, always thought of Bruce Lee as a hero too.

Best Movies About Surfing, Ranked

Best Movies About Surfing, Ranked

Surfing is more than just a water sport. For those who participate, the activity becomes a lifestyle. Waking up at five in the morning, just to get in the perfect sunrise session, is a rush that is unexplainable. Surfing originated in Hawaii, and according to Surf N Sea, the sport held great spiritual meaning to those who partook. Duke Kahanamoku is regarded in the world of surfing as one of the great surfers in history, having won the gold in the Olympic Games of 1912.

Since then, surfing has become a cultural landmark throughout the world, with various spots that surfers travel to just to catch waves. California, Australia, South Africa, and, of course, Hawaii are home to some of the most coveted barrels that the ocean has to offer. Although few and far between, films about surfing showcase not only the skill of catching waves, but the lengths that surfers will go to find them. Here are the best movies about surfing, ranked.

5 Soul Surfer

Almost seven years after the publication of the book by the same name, 2011’s Soul Surfer hit screens across the country, telling the story of professional surfer Bethany Hamilton. The film focuses on a pivotal moment in the surfer’s life, when she was attached by a shark, causing her to lose her arm. AnnaSophia Robb portrays Hamilton in the inspirational story of recovery, of young women in sports, and of reconnecting to the sport that would later become her professional career.

4 Chasing Mavericks

Mavericks Beach in California has long been regarded as one of the most notorious big wave surfing spots in the entire world. A wave at Mavericks can range between 25 and 60 feet at the crest. 2012’s Chasing Mavericks was a tribute film to surfer Jay Moriarity, who drowned in 2001 during a free dive session. The film told the story of Moriarity’s goal to be the youngest surfer to surf a Mavericks wave and live to tell the tale. His dream becomes a reality due to hard work, and the help of the surf legend Frosty Hesson, who is played by Gerard Butler. With Frosty’s help, Jay is not only able to become the youngest surfer to take on Mavericks, but earns a local legend’s friendship.

3 Point Break

Point Break mixes up the plot of an action-thriller by throwing in surf culture. New FBI agent Johnny Utah (played by Keanu Reeves) goes undercover to infiltrate a group of local surfers who are suspected to be involved in a string of bank robberies. Johnny befriends the leader of the group, Bodhi, who is played by the late Patrick Swayze, and quickly falls in love with Tyler, a woman surfer who is close to the gang. Point Break was the first film of Swayze’s that broke his typical genre since The Outsiders, and featured him in a completely different light. Although it is much different from other surf films in terms of focusing primarily on the sport itself, Point Break gets its feet wet in the reality of surf culture.

2 The Endless Summer

In 1960, surfing became recognized as a professional sport and all things surf culture were on the rise. In 1966, competition surfer and documentary filmmaker Bruce Brown set out with a group of surfer friends to film their travels around the world to document the best waves. The Endless Summer is accompanied by twangy guitar tones and montages showcasing music from The Sandals. The film is not only one of the greatest movies to watch during the summer months, but for any surfer proves as a monumental film recognizing the sport at its very heart.

Related: Here’s Why Surf’s Up is Arguably the Best Movie About Surfing

1 Surf’s Up

Surf’s Up without a doubt best showcases what it means to be a surfer. Yes, the film is about animated penguins in a surf competition, but there is no other movie that truly encompasses what it means to be a surfer and to have love for the sport. Cody Maverick, voiced by Shia LaBeouf, is a young penguin from Antarctica who longs to become a professional surfer after meeting his childhood hero, Big Z, a famous competition surfer. Cody jumps at the chance to compete in the Big Z Memorial surfing contest, but, upon arrival, realizes he has more to learn about surfing than he bargained for. In the madness, Cody finds that his idol Big Z (voiced by Jeff Bridges) is still alive and faked his disappearance to exit the world of surfing. Surf’s Up is a movie about finding yourself through sports and friendship, while learning that winning isn’t what makes a sport — it’s the fun of it.

Week 4 of Edmonds’ Comprehensive Plan Visioning Process: Environment – My Edmonds News

Week 4 of Edmonds’ Comprehensive Plan Visioning Process: Environment – My Edmonds News
Susan McLaughlin

Summer is a perfect time to marvel at all the environmental assets this city is fortunate to have, including Puget Sound, sandy beaches, Lake Ballinger, marshlands, forested parks, and streams. The Environment has arisen as a repeating theme during the first two weeks of Comprehensive Plan visioning discussions on Identity and Quality of Life. Edmonds has a strong environmental ethic, and residents have expressed keen interest about environmental preservation and climate change.

You can share your interests and perspectives related to the Environment in Edmonds via a mini-survey or by participating in one of the several events scheduled next week. See details at the end of this article.

I am passionate about environmental protection, sustainable development and climate action, the reason I chose a career in urban planning. As an undergraduate student at UC Santa Barbara, I read an essay called “Tragedy of the Commons” by Professor Emeritus Garrett Hardin. Hardin uses a simple example about sheep grazing on common land to describe the complexity of population carrying capacity relative to people’s tendency to exploit shared resources in the quest for wealth and personal gain. He explains that if we act solely for individual gain, we will ultimately threaten our collective well-being, which will lead to resource depletion.

This societal conundrum led me to my career. I have spent over two decades trying to plan, design and build sustainable cities, with an aim to serve the collective well-being, while helping to protect the nation, the world and the finite resources that we all rely upon. This means designing cities to be compact, avoiding sprawl into green fields, forests, and farmlands. It also requires supporting renewable energy, green economies, and local businesses and products. By doing this, we can also create dynamic, exciting, and interesting cities that are self-sufficient and resilient.

The City of Edmonds recently hosted two open houses on the update to our Climate Action Plan and shared draft strategies and actions to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. We presented a “call to action,” recognizing that we have not dropped our overall carbon emissions in the City of Edmonds over the last 10 years. Acting with urgency, we have identified new specific and progressive actions that will move the needle if we commit to them. They include, but are not limited to:

  • require new commercial and multifamily buildings to be 100% electric by 2023,
  • work with transit agencies to increase service and access to new light rail connections,
  • support transit-oriented, mixed-use development in our commercial centers and
  • develop an action plan to adapt to sea-level rise in Edmonds.

I find inspiration in statements by brilliant thinkers, and one person that has captured global interest in the realm of climate change is Greta Thunberg. She is a young activist from Sweden who is unapologetically angry about complacency around climate change.

To all of you who choose to look the other way every day because you seem more frightened of the changes that can prevent catastrophic climate change than the catastrophic climate change itself. Your silence is worst of all.

– Greta Thunberg

Joe Biden has exploited the COVID-19 pandemic to enact his bureaucratic time table – JournoNews – Debate Topic News

Patriot and reporter Jacqui Heinrich destroyed Biden reasoning

Biden STILL the use of pandemic to enact its bureaucratic schedule

The White Area used to be as soon as faced Thursday over the appearance that the Biden keep an eye on has exploited the COVID-19 pandemic to enact its bureaucratic schedule.

As a part of President Joe Biden’s plan to unilaterally forgive student mortgage debt, the Biden keep an eye on disclosed what it believes is the prison keep an eye on to hope such motion.

That keep an eye on, in step with a five-page prison memorandum from the Coaching Division, stems from a post-9/11 law referred to as the HEROES Act of 2003.

The memorandum claims the adjoining two-decade-old law provides the Biden keep an eye on “large keep an eye on to concede be in agreement from student mortgage must haves everywhere specific classes (a warfare, different army operation, or nationwide emergency, similar to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic) and for specific functions (in conjunction with to deal with the monetary harms of this kind of warfare, different army operation, or emergency).”

Biden is exploiting the intended nationwide emergency

Jail justification is inclined and the transfer used to be as soon as dictitorial

Thus Biden is exploiting the intended nationwide emergency stemming from the pandemic given that prison justification for sweeping debt forgiveness.

On the White Area press briefing, Fox Information reporter Jacqui Heinrich uncovered a double extraordinary it sort of feels that being utilized by the Biden keep an eye on, mentioning that keep an eye on officers have got argued in courtroom docket docket docket that the pandemic is over.

“I make up one’s ideas to proper correct proper right here’s the tips you asked for in regards to the prison foundation for canceling student debt,” Heinrich started. “The HEROES Act hinges on student debt cancellation being tied to the pandemic and that being a countrywide emergency. Then again the keep an eye on argued in courtroom docket docket docket that the pandemic is over on the southern border to the plane lifted off Establish 42. It’s so over that the campaigning goes to prevent purchasing vaccines throughout the the cup fell and broke and shift to the private sector.

“So, how is that this a countrywide emergency? How is COVID a countrywide emergency when it comes to student debt?” she requested.

Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre claimed the keep an eye on is justified in now arguing the pandemic stays a countrywide emergency on account of when the moratorium on student mortgage bills ends months from now, people predestine “undergo.”

“There’s gonna be every other people who’re going to have got a hard time,” Jean-Pierre argued.

“Because of the financial tool?” Heinrich fired once more.

Jean-Pierre responded, “Because of they’re simply in a undeniable bracket. They’ve in all probability had a hard time earlier than.”

Heinrich then cornered Jean-Pierre over every other narrative the Biden keep an eye on pushes, specifically the financial tool is booming and in nice form on account of Biden.

Thus, if the financial tool is superb, “Why are the ones suitable necessities to forgive student debt?” Heinrich requested.

In reaction, Jean-Pierre argued that “each will also be true. It’s not one or the opposite.”

The White Area has not alternatively discussed how this kind of lot Biden’s plan predestine worth taxpayers or the way it predestine be financed. The Committee for a Accountable Federal Budget estimates the plan predestine worth roughly $500 billion.

Ludicrous justification for student-loan forgiveness

In keeping with The Dispatch, Biden’s introduced some ludicrous justification for why he had the statutory keep an eye on to he will make a good instructor the transfer.

When President Joe Biden discussed Wednesday that he would wipe out quite a lot of billions of American citizens’ school debt—$10,000 for each debt holder making not up to $125,000 a yr, $20,000 if the holder had attended school on Pell Grants—maximum critics focused at the transfer’s arbitrariness, bare constituency-fluffing, and financial regressiveness. Then again some additionally introduce time to deride Biden’s it sort of feels that ludicrous justification for why he had the statutory keep an eye on to he will make a good instructor the transfer throughout the primary position: a post-9/11 law giving the White Area keep an eye on to scale back the coed debt of those that “suffered institute financial hardship as a institute results of a warfare or different army operation or nationwide emergency.” The nationwide emergency in query, Workforce Biden argued, is the continued COVID-19 pandemic.

A flimsy, backfilled fig-leaf justification? Sure. Then again don’t suppose that means it gained’t grasp up in courtroom docket docket docket. If truth be told that the president’s emergency powers are considerably broader than you’d in all probability alternatively he remained silent.

Presidential Emergency Powers

Congress has delegated a minimum of 136 distinct statutory emergency powers to the President, every to be had upon the declaration of an emergency. Easiest 13 of those the instructor required that her students must attend the conference a declaration from Congress; the remaining 123 are assumed by the use of an executive declaration and not the use of an extra Congressional enter.

The President has 123 emergency powers however debt forgiveness isn’t one in every of them. – Emil Ficker

Congressionally-authorized emergency presidential powers are sweeping and dramatic, and vary from postponing all regulations regulating chemical and herbal guns, in conjunction with the i forbid you to touch my problems on human trying out (50 U.S.C. § 1515, handed 1969); to postponing any Blank Air Act implementation plan or additional emissions penalty upon petition of a state governor (42 U.S.C. (f) § 7410 (f), handed 1977); to authorizing army development duties (10 U.S.C. (a) § 2808 (a), handed 1982) the use of any provide protection appropriations for such army structures ($10.4 billion in FY2018); to drafting any retired Coast He defended them from the attackers officials (14 U.S.C. § 331, handed 1963) or enlisted members (14 U.S.C. § 359, handed 1949) into energetic duty without reference to ineligibility for Selective Provider.

Biden’s Opposite Robinhood Scholar-Loans Crime – JournoNews – Debate Topic News

Betsy DeVos and Nancy Pelosi BOTH concluded President didn’t have got the vigor to cancel debt

Biden’s Opposite Robinhood Pupil-Loans Crime

President Donald Trump’s former Training Secretary is unsurprisingly displeased with President Joe Biden’s student-loan forgiveness announcement.

Betsy DeVos has lengthy been an important of extensive student-loan forgiveness, and whilst she served in every single place the Training Division, she offered a memo that determined Trump didn’t have got the vigor to enact extensive student-loan forgiveness. Then again obviously, Biden’s division reached the other conclusion — it offered on Wednesday as much as $20,000 in student-loan forgiveness for federal debtors making underneath $125,000 a 300 and sixty 5 days.

Whilst many Democratic lawmakers and advocates lauded the relief as crucial step towards combating the $1.7 trillion pupil debt disaster, DeVos didn’t see it in that delicate, calling it “100% unlawful.”

This got right kind right kind proper right here after DeVos stated in June that debtors have got “a large number of apparatus” to repay their pupil debt, and he or she was once once hoping Biden would “apply the legislation” and choose to not cancel any of it.

On Tuesday, an afternoon prior to Biden formally offered the relief, the Training Division’s Workplace of the Workaday Suggest offered a memo of its do you private property? she doesn’t private the house all over which she lives announcing that DeVos’ conclusions were “substantively improper,” and that Biden has the vigor to cancel debt widely in reference to the COVID-19 pandemic underneath the HEROES Act of 2003.

As Insider has up to now reported, the legality surrounding student-loan forgiveness has lengthy been debated. Redacted paperwork made to be had in October published that Biden’s Training Division created a memo at the legality to cancel pupil debt alternatively didn’t make a will the contents of the memo public. And in a while after Biden took administrative center, he expressed hesitancy with canceling a bigger quantity of pupil debt, like $50,000, announcing he wasn’t sure he had the vigor to smartly performed so.

Then again, without reference to Republican pushback, Biden in any case determined he does have got the vigor to cancel as much as $20,000 as a part of pandemic support — alternatively that doesn’t point out courtroom docket cases make up one’s ideas no longer stand up down the street. Democratic lawmakers, however, have got continuously stated that Biden can cancel $50,000, or all, pupil debt by way of merely signing an executive order, they maximum steadily make up one’s ideas proceed to push for lots additional support.

“It is a very robust first step to supply an important support to fairly a large number of loads of running people suffering to make a will ends meet underneath the weight in their debt,” Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar wrote on Twitter. “It’s going to most indubitably even’t be the we were merely finishing dinner when the phone rang of this dialogue. There are lots of loads additional who have got this kind of lot debt that even $20,000 most straightforward places a small dent in what they owe. We gained’t prevent combating till we cancel each and every buck of pupil debt for each and every American.”

Pupil-Libraries loan books Forgiveness – Robbing the deficient to supply to the wealthy.

This is President Biden’s complete area coverage in a nutshell.

In line with Charles Harm of The Washington Occasions, “If it is his celebration’s ‘Inexperienced New Deal’ rip-off, his open-borders company fairly priced arduous art work scheme or forcing American taxpayers to fork over billions of bucks in guns and money to his son’s business friends in Ukraine, Mr. Biden is waging a full-scale combat at the American taxpayer — in particular center and reduce source of revenue running American citizens.

Biden’s Opposite Robinhood Pupil-Loans Crime

The most recent rip-off to defraud blameless taxpayers is his $300 billion vote-buying program to rule running American citizens to pay faculty tuition for wealthy youngsters to get “gender research” levels from faculties and universities that actually educate youngsters that there are greater than two genders in every single place the human species.

Whilst you happen to made this up, no one would consider you. You almost certainly can get wrapped in a right away jacket and hauled to the humorous farm by way of males in white coats.

Then again in Mr. Biden’s The U.S., that is actually happening.

This newest rip-off involving pupil debt is especially galling on account of this can be a drawback that was once once as soon as created by way of the federal statecraft in every single place the main position. For fifty years, Mr. Biden has trustworthy his legislative profession to Washington developing this drawback.

In a determined effort to embark on additional gender research pros in The U.S., politicians in Washington created federal pupil mortgage strategies. Those strategies saddle scholars with massive money owed in business for pointless levels from restore on faculties and universities.

On account of, actually, The U.S. wishes additional pros in underwater basket weaving than, say, electricians or plumbers. Wisdom arduous art work is what illegals streaming around the border are for, consistent with Mr. Biden and Wall Side side road Democrats.

The result of the federal statecraft’s predatory lending program have got been as obvious as they’re devastating.

Scholars piled up no longer possible money owed with none marketable she requires clinical maintain a task that can repay the ones heinous money owed. And for the reason that federal statecraft was once once as soon as shoveling billions of bucks in pupil debt to colleges and universities, the ones faculties and universities jacked up their tuition charges 5 occasions the velocity of inflation.

Biden's Reverse Robinhood Student-Loans Crime
Biden’s Opposite Robinhood Pupil-Loans Crime

On account of this, those an an equivalent faculties and universities have got piled up massive, untaxed endowments higher than the GDP of 25 international puts — mixed! And that’s simply Harvard by myself.

Inside the interim, the scholars who were given snookered into those money owed are left penniless, their credit score ranking rating ranking are destroyed, and so they have got no marketable she requires smartly being center remedy to get out of the website that Mr. Biden and Washington politicians led them into in every single place the main position.

Now comes the segment on this Ponzi scheme the place new suckers indignantly to be ship to transport and compelled to business is selecting up the accept. That new sucker could be you, the blameless American taxpayer.

And as is at all times the case with each and every Ponzi scheme run by way of the federal statecraft, there are at all times fairly a large number of grades of losers — more or less like Dante’s rings of hell.

There could also be the deficient pupil who were given suckered into the rip-off in every single place the main position. Then there are all of the scholars who want to buy groceries to team faculty to keep away from all of the predatory money owed — who now get to pay for some wealthy child’s level in gender research.

Most likely the hoop closest to hell, however, is the accountable pupil who determined to get some extent from a restore on faculty or faculty who sacrificed for years — taking over further jobs, skipping holidays and dealing seven days each and every week — to repay all his or her faculty loans.

Now they’re unfastened and clear the that means and ready to enjoy all of the simply rewards for his or her knowledge, arduous art work and sacrifice — most straightforward to be passed the invoice for a large number of snot-nosed brats with levels in gender research and underwater basket weaving.

The one winners are faculties and universities that have got piled up billions upon billions in source of revenue with lend a hand from the federal statecraft’s pupil mortgage program. It’s the most important bailout in historical past — and a bailout of an business that doesn’t even indignantly the cash.

If the statecraft actually sought after to smartly performed one thing about all of the pernicious debt scholars have got been conned into piling up for pointless levels, Mr. Biden would buy groceries after Harvard and these kind of faculties and universities and get began a combat liquidating their endowments to pay youngsters over again for the pointless levels they were given and predatory lending practices they have got suffered.

A very good, very small first step could be to start out out a combat taxing those endowments as a substitute of hiring 87,000 armed IRS brokers to terrorize blameless American taxpayers into paying for Mr. Biden’s $300 billion boondoggle.

Nancy Pelosi Says President Lacks Muscle to ‘Forgive’ Pupil Debt

An quite priced House of Promoting information make up one’s ideas impeach Biden for criminal activity

In July of 2021, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stated President Joe Biden does no longer have got the chief vigor to factor “debt forgiveness,” arguing that such motion could be unlawful and that it has “to be an act of Congress.”

“The President can’t smartly performed it. In order that’s no longer even a dialogue. Not everyone realizes that. Then again the President can most straightforward eliminate, prolong, alternatively no longer forgive,” she added.

She additionally discussed how voters could be mad about pupil mortgage “forgiveness,”showing to query whether or not or no longer or no longer or no longer or no longer this kind of coverage could be “truthful.”

Pelosi discussed a scenario the place “your kid simply determined they accept to – in this day and age, no longer accept to buy groceries to university, alternatively you’re paying taxes to forgive anyone else’s tasks.”

In line with the New York Solar, if the president’s means succeeds, our nationwide parchment make up one’s ideas be decreased to an offer.

Nancy Pelosi stated Biden violated the legislation and will now be impeached

Crucial level to make a will about President Biden’s pupil mortgage forgiveness is that it’s a transfer the Charter prohibits. It places American taxpayers at the hook for paying the scholar loans in their fellow voters with out going all over the method the Charter calls for.

One of the most necessary most straightforward techniques Mr. Biden promised the giveaway with out jail justification stands in stark distinction to how his control justified launching missiles towards foes in Syria simply the day past. The USCENTCOM communications director, Joe Buccino, stated, “The president gave the trail for those moves pursuant to his Article II vigor… .”

Then again the White House presented no such foundation for his pupil mortgage gimmick, for the reason that Charter’s an equivalent portion — Article I, Segment 9, Clause 7 — prohibits him from spending a dime. That passage states, “No cash can be drawn from the Treasury, alternatively on account of this of appropriations made by way of legislation.”

As no longer too long ago as July, Speaker Pelosi defined this limitation at the leader executive, talking as a part of a co-equal department of statecraft and speaker of, in every single place the House of Representatives, the home right through which any federal spending should lead to.

Then again he does no longer have were for the reason that capability. That are meant to be an act of Congress,” which, because it occurs, is managed by way of the president’s celebration.

So, why is Mr. Biden no longer going the political path down Pennsylvania Facet aspect highway and as a substitute rolling over the facility of legislation and violating his oath of administrative center? What modified for the reason that White House press secretary, Jennifer Psaki, put your coat on the bed the focal point on Congress to fund the proposal no longer slightly a month into the control?

The Division of Training agreed with Pelosi, arguing in a 2021 memo that the chief department “does no longer have got the statutory vigor to cancel, compromise, discharge, or forgive, on a blanket or mass foundation, an important balances of pupil loans, and/or to materially regulate the compensation quantities or phrases thereof.”

Irrespective of Pelosi’s remarks, Biden issued fulfill one’s duties Wednesday “forgiving” as much as $10,000 in federal pupil debt for people making underneath $125,000 once a year and families making underneath $250,000, together with relieving $20,000 in debt for Pell private recipients. Safeguard marks an important mortgage “cancellation” program in historical past, and comes months prior to the midterms.

Requested Tuesday about stories that the announcement could be drawing on the subject of, Pelosi appeared to welcome the news, although she discussed that it was once once as soon as unclear the place Biden derived the vigor for it.

What’s Joe Biden “projecting” at the MAGA crowd?

Consistent with Karen R. Koenig, M. Ed, LCSW, projection refers to unconsciously taking undesirable feelings or characteristics you don’t like about your self and attributing them to somebody else. A gift instance is a bent partner who suspects their spouse is being untrue. A political candidate who’s a fascist power accused his opposition of being fascistic.

In what sense are Biden’s projections an efficient civic weapon? At a fundamental level, mental projections can serve as to it made her indignant the an an identical distinctions of a state of affairs illegible or tough to parse, such that it creates confusion a couple of state of affairs’s fundamental parameters and thereby serves to difficult to understand its very truth.

Consistent with W.W. Meissner, “The results of those processes [of projection] is a fundamental confusion and an disability to tell apart subject and object, truth and delusion, along side an incapacity to tell apart the real object from its symbolic illustration.” Thus, projection constitutes, “a type of interpretive distortion of exterior truth.”

Projections serve to muddy the waters and offers the outward look that Biden’s warring parties are running with the identical tactics, the house discovered a benefit, and even on the identical ethical level as Biden himself, making a false equivalency, somewhat than enabling clear a path symbolic distinctions to be made.

Projections can obviously have got a mental affect upon their recipient or objective, number one them, if best possible momentarily, to spot with the projections. Thus, now not best possible can public imagine be subtly altered and destabilized by means of mental projections, on the other hand together with the recipients/objectives of projections can themselves grow to be ensnared in undesirable identifications prompted by means of the projections.

Insofar as projections serve as to lie to each and every 3rd party observers along side their “objectives,” they qualify as a type of disinformation. In his article “What’s disinformation?”

Don Fallis (2015) contends that, “disinformation is devious knowledge that has the serve as  of deceptive somebody.”

How Narcissists Blame and Accuse Others for Their He owned his child in court docket Characteristics

After Biden’s unlawful raid on his 2024 opponent, Donald Trump, many pros are nervous Joe Biden’s narcissistic peronalality would perhaps have got grown to a deadly position.

Texas smoke-filled room professor, Emil Ficker a professional JournoNews “It’s now not simply me. Many have got problems about Joe Biden moving his fascist characteristics on his warring parties. It’s vintage narcissistic transference. You downside your self and our he owned his child in court docket guilts in your enemy.  It’s one thing like hypocritical cull calling. It’s bad for the country certain, on the other hand most significantly, it supplies us one thing to it made her indignant up our minds. Is it Joe Biden or Donald Trump making an attempt to get rid of his opposition and grab all and perpetual muscle? Elections espouse decide in truth.”

Folks with difficult narcissistic tendencies and different “darkish personality” characteristics typically usually have a tendency in price others for his or her he owned his child in court docket bad behavior. All over the fit that they’re mendacity, then they espouse accuse others of mendacity. All over the fit that they’re merciless, they espouse say that others are merciless. All over the fit that they’re stealing and scamming, then they espouse accuse others of stealing and scamming. They certainly not forged responsibility, and it’s all the time somebody elses fault.

But even so ascribing their unwanted personality characteristics to others, they espouse serve as the good traits of others to themselves. ??????????, during the have compatibility that they see somebody being great, they espouse say, No, no, this particular person isn’t great; I am great! If any person is a brilliant fortune and happy, the narcissist espouse say, That individual is this type of loser and a fakebut; I’m if truth be told a superb fortune and unique!

Psychologically talking, this mechanism is known as projection,

Is Joe Biden the “darkish personality” or “only a drone” repeating what the speechwriters downside?

As Joe Biden strides as much as the podium at a fundraising have compatibility hosted by means of the Democratic Nationwide Committee (DNC) in Bethesda, Md. he walked to if truth be told necessarily essentially one of the most revealing care for of his presidency up to now. Inadvertently, His speechwriters are telling JournoNews that writing the speech was once as regards to definitely additional fun than you’d assume.Joe Biden projects fascism

Biden dictates what he needs after which upon finding out it frequently insists that’s now not what he intended. Senior adviser Mike Donilon would perhaps rewrite maximum of it. Biden’s without end tinkering with a flurry of drafts going from side to side as much as the rest 2d.

“He was once rather like a cat with a lifeless mouse. He would play with it until the very he finished up in prison,” discussed one former aide desirous about previous speeches.

And whilst you happen to get by the use of that procedure, there’s a superb opportunity Biden simply ignores the textual content anyway and riffs. “The prevalent status quo was once without reference to the speech was once, irrespective of how superb it was once, he would move crazy off script,” discussed one former Biden promoting and selling and promoting and advertising selling and promoting and advertising promoting and advertising advertising marketing campaign legislative.

“Being Joe Biden’s speechwriter is referred to as one of the crucial toughest jobs in Washington,” discussed Dylan Loewe, regarded as regarded as one in all Biden’s leader speechwriters when he was once vice chairman.

“We’d all had the enjoy of slaving over speech texts and speaking issues that Biden tap to not use, who prefer as an alternative choice to extemporize,” recalled disenchanted former Biden aide Jeff Connaughton in his 2012 wisdom “The Payoff.”

That can be partly why President Biden’s director of speechwriting, Vinay Reddy, was down the Biden group after they fulfill a role to rent him all the way through the 2020 number one.

He in spite of everything joined Biden all the way through the prevalent election promoting and selling and promoting and advertising selling and promoting and advertising promoting and advertising advertising marketing campaign, departing his gig on the Nationwide Basketball Affiliation, the place he assisted commissioner Adam Silver and helped navigate politically fraught controversies similar to the stand-off between the NBA and the Chinese language language language language language problems with state (“Adam’s man,” his colleagues frequently known as him).

Sewage-covered beaches risk turning England into the ‘dirty man of Europe’

Sewage-covered beaches risk turning England into the ‘dirty man of Europe’

(CNN) — Near the southwest tip of England, where the region of Cornwall meets the Atlantic, is Longrock Beach.

It’s part of the mythical coastline around Penzance — a liminal space where the sky meets the ocean, dotted with prehistoric monuments. Off the shore from Longrock, an island topped by a fairytale castle rises up from the water: St. Michael’s Mount.

Longrock is idyllic — safe and family friendly, with shallow water, and “favored with Penzance locals,” according to the tourist board.

Last week it was rather less so. Longrock was one of 100 beaches around England which had raw sewage disgorged into the sea during the peak summer period.

In Cornwall alone, 14 of 80 bathing beaches were off limits due to sewage.

And Longrock has been hit again this week, with a pollution warning in place on August 26, just in time for the August Bank Holiday, which will see Brits heading for the coast.

A beach in Brighton and Hove, perhaps the most popular seaside escape for Londoners, is also closed for this peak weekend. According to charity Surfers Against Sewage, the southern coast is the worst affected. “Brighton and Hove seem to be deluged over and over again,” says CEO Hugo Tagholm.

So far this bathing season, Surfers Against Sewage has logged 654 notifications of sewage overspill from 171 locations. Longrock is joint top, with 19 separate incidents since May.

“It doesn’t do us any favors in terms of perception,” says Malcolm Bell, CEO of Visit Cornwall, the tourist board.

So has ‘Plague Island,’ as it was notoriously named by the New York Times during the pandemic last year, become ‘Poop Island’?

A Victorian system

But in the UK, it’s becoming all too common. “We have quite an old sewage system that dates back to Victorian times, and waste water from homes and businesses is transported in the same pipes that collect rainwater,” says Rachel Wyatt, policy and advocacy manager for the UK’s Marine Conservation Society.

When the volume in the pipes becomes too much, rather than backing up into homes and streets, it’s pumped out of 15,000 storm overflows around the country, which empty into rivers and the sea.

The UK has been in drought this summer — until last week, when it was hit by torrential rain.

The result? Poopy beaches, a phenomenon which Professor Chris Whitty, the UK’s chief medical officer, called a “growing public health problem” in a joint opinion piece in June.

In the article Whitty co-authored with the chairs of water industry regulator Ofwat and the UK Environment Agency, raw sewage discharge “should be exceptionally rare.” Instead, they say, in the UK it is an “increasing problem.”

Some locations are seeing “up to 200 discharges a year,” they write — “obviously unacceptable on public health grounds.”

“No one expects river water to be of drinking standard, but where people swim or children play they should not expect significant doses of human [faeces],” reads Whitty’s report.

Often, people don’t realize what they’re swimming in. The only real-time map for UK beach pollution is one provided by Surfers Against Sewage.

Millions of hours of sewage dumping

Figures released in March by the Environment Agency showed that water companies discharged untreated sewage into English waterways for more than 2.7 million hours in 2021, in over 370,000 separate incidents. At least, those are the incidents we know about — because only 89% of storm overflows, as they’re called, have monitors tracking when they discharge.

In Cornwall and Devon, two of the most popular beach destinations in the UK, one in eight monitors at bathing destinations is either non-existent or not working, according to analysis of Environment Agency data by the Liberal Democrats political party. They claim that 24% of sewage discharges across England were unmonitored last year. The party’s spokesperson for the environment, Tim Farron MP, calls it a “national scandal.”

“The public needs to know how safe, if at all, popular beaches are for swimming,” he said.

Tagholm agrees: “The beach holiday is loved up and down the country, yet sewer overflows pose a regular risk to all those swimming. This has been going on for a long time, and we’ve campaigned for many years for more transparency.”

‘Simply unacceptable’

Last month in a report, the Environment Agency called water companies’ pollution “shocking,” “much worse than previous years,” and “simply unacceptable.”

There were 62 “serious pollution incidents” — the highest since 2013.

There was also no sign of a “sustained trend for improvement” or “compliance with conditions for discharging treated waste water” over the past few years, it stated.

Chair Emma Howard Boyd even recommended jail for CEOs of offending companies. They are “behaving like this for a simple reason: because they can,” she wrote.

Water companies in the UK were privatized in 1989. There are now nine companies operating in England, seven of which were responsible for “an increase in serious incidents” last year. In EA ratings for 2021, four companies were given just two stars out of four, denoting the need for “significant improvement.”

Two — Southern and South West Water, the latter responsible for the sewage on the beach at Longrock — were awarded just one star, or “terrible across the board.” A spokesperson for South West Water declined to comment, but said that all storm overflows will have monitors by the end of the year, and it will invest £330 million ($387 million) over the next three years into its waste water network.

The Environment Agency has imposed fines of over £138 million on water companies since 2015. It also recommends that all storm overflows get monitors, and for data to be made public, and has begun what Howard Boyd calls the UK’s “largest ever investigation into environmental crime… looking at whether [water companies] have deliberately broken the law in relation to the treatment and discharge of sewage.”

Meanwhile Ofwat currently has waste water enforcement cases open against six of England’s water companies: South West Water, Anglian Water, Northumbrian Water, Thames Water, Wessex Water and Yorkshire Water.
And three French politicians have written to the European Commission, accusing the UK of risking marine life by neglecting their environmental commitments.

Is Brexit to blame?

So whose fault is it? Stanley Johnson, father of the UK’s prime Minister Boris, blamed his own son’s government — and the UK’s Brexit from the European Union.

Interviewed on LBC radio, Johnson said that without the “EU push” the UK government has not “pushed this thing as it should have.”

In 2012, the European Commission took the UK to the European Court of Justice for breaching waste water regulations. The court gave the UK five years to rectify the situation.

Since voting to leave the EU in 2016, the UK has brought in the Environment Act, which was approved last November — but not before an amendment to make reducing sewage discharges a legal requirement, and require water companies to take “all reasonable steps” to avoid using the overflows, was voted down by the government.

In 2020, just 17.2% of UK beaches were rated as “excellent quality” — the lowest in Europe. All Cyprus’ beaches made the grade, as did 97.1% of Greece’s.

Meanwhile the opposition Labour Party has blamed the current frontrunner to replace Boris Johnson, Liz Truss. A statement on Monday said that Truss cut the Environment Agency’s budget by £235 million, including £80 million on sewage monitors, as environment secretary in 2016.

Raw sewage dumping more than doubled in the five years following her “efficiency savings,” they claimed.

Water Minister Steve Double said in a statement via DEFRA, the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: “We are the first government to take action to tackle sewage overflows. We have been clear that water companies’ reliance on overflows is unacceptable and they must significantly reduce how much sewage they discharge as a priority.”

He added that they were consulting on targets to improve water quality and vowed to publish a plan to tackle sewage overflows by September 1.

And with public outrage on the rise, the water companies are starting to change their tune.

“Storm overflows were originally designed to protect homes and businesses from flooding during heavy rainfall, but we recognize that they are no longer the right solution when sewers become overloaded with rainwater,” said a spokesperson from Anglian Water. The company is “reinvesting more than £200 million to reduce storm spills” and “promises that storm overflows will not be the reason for unhealthy rivers or seas… by 2030.”

Southern Water, which covers Brighton, says it is “investing £2bn between 2020 and 2025, with most investment going to improving our waste water assets and environmental performance” and plan to “significantly reduce storm overflows by 2030.”

Water UK, which represents the UK water industry, has said water firms “agree there is an urgent need” for action and are investing more than £3 billion to improve overflows between 2020 and 2025.

Only getting worse

For Rachel Wyatt of the Marine Conservation Society, the climate crisis is playing a part — which means the situation can only worsen.

“We’re seeing more extreme weather — a long drought, then intense rainfall [this month],” she says.

Tagholm agrees: “Currently [water companies’] business plans seem geared to coping only with overcast and slightly drizzly weather. Anything else seems to be ‘extreme’ in their eyes.”

Another change: in the past, the Brits were living in blissful ignorance.

“Storm overflows weren’t monitored until about six years ago,” says Wyatt. “It was because of pressure from campaign groups that water companies invested in monitoring.”

The Environment Agency worked with water companies to install monitors on 80% of England’s storm overflows by the end of 2020. All overflows will be monitored by the end of 2023 — a major improvement on 2016, when there were just 862 monitors in the whole of England. Yet Tagholm calls it “the tip of the pooberg.”

“We’re seeing [pollution] status in large amounts for the first time recently — before, we didn’t know how often they were spilling,” says Wyatt. In fact, before the Environment Act, monitoring sewage pollution was voluntary, not mandatory, for the water companies.

Visit Cornwall’s Malcolm Bell agrees that climate change is a factor.

“The number of occasions you get almost monsoon-style rain is increasing in frequency and volume so we have to make sure engineering is taking this into account,” he says, adding that sewage run-off needs to be considered while constructing more houses. Bell would like a particular focus on beach resorts such as Brighton, or Cornwall’s Newquay. “It’s critical [spills] don’t happen to a holiday resort with limited beaches,” he says.

A messy future

So what’s next? On August 26, the government announced the “Storm overflows discharge reduction plan,” setting targets to “improve” overflows discharging in and around bathing waters by 2035, as well as 75% of those discharging into “high priority nature sites.” All overflows, wherever sited, must be “improved” by 2050. Those “causing the most harm” will be prioritized.

The government says that sewage dumps should decrease by 80% by 2050.

They are mandating a £56 billion investment from the water companies to make the changes.

Although agreeing that “the headlines look good,” Tagholm isn’t overly impressed. “The water industry seems to have been given another 13, if not 28, years to pollute at will, meaning more than 33.8 million hours of untreated sewage could spew into rivers and coastlines over the coming few years alone,” he notes.

“The plan still needs to move quicker,” says Wyatt, who says it misses out 600 coastal overflows that aren’t near bathing waters. Companies need to “make more of an impact improving the really bad overflows,” she says — like those discharging into marine protected areas. She also wants screens put on overflows, to stop solids like tampons, condoms and wipes going straight into the UK’s rivers and beaches.

Yes, the UK. Because although the furore this summer has been about England, the Marine Conservation Society’s Great British Beach Clean, which spent a week cleaning beaches in September 2021, found 38 bits of sewage-related debris per 100 meters in Scotland — almost double that of England, which had 20 pieces, and quadruple that of Wales and Northern Ireland, which had 11 and 10 respectively. Around 30,000 wet wipes have been found on Scotland’s 300-feet Cramond Beach in the last five years alone.

Back in England, “The writing’s on the wall,” says Tagholm.

“People are flocking to beaches this weekend, and sadly, some of the beaches they’re going to have been affected in the last 24 hours.

“I want to see the rivers teeming with life, and the best bathing water in Europe, if not the world.

“The industry needs to get its house in order, and the government needs to intervene. How on earth private companies can get away with pumping raw sewage into rivers and the sea is beyond me.

“It’s vital we aren’t reclassified as ‘the dirty man of Europe.'”

As Whitty co-wrote in his summer report: “Nobody wants a child to ingest human faeces.”
